The Limits of Traditional Brain Training Programs

Millions of people work to enhance their cognitive skills, memory, attention, flexibility, problem solving and processing speed with games and exercises like Lumosity and CogMed.

Key Differences:

  • Traditional BrainTime  programs exercise one particular skill (like working memory), and that one skill is the only skill that improves.
  • BrainTime is a simple listening program to enhance fundamental brain function and create positive physical, emotional and cognitive outcomes.

Studies show that traditional brain training can improve the skills that are being practiced or gamified, but the results are narrow. They don’t generalize. That means you do get better at the particular task or skill you are training, but you don’t see improvement with skills and tasks you did not train, even if they are closely related. You might for example be able to remember a grocery list better, but you still misplace your keys just as often as you did before.

Games that train cognitive skills don’t go deep enough. Your brain controls every aspect of your life – physical, mental and emotional… not just your thinking, and games that train cognitive skills don’t address your whole brain.

It’s like caring for the fruit on a tree and ignoring the roots that nourish the ENTIRE tree. Healthy roots lead to healthy fruit and not the other way around. It doesn’t work to only water the branches and fruit!

If you practice remembering a grocery list you get better at remembering a grocery list, but not where you put your keys. However, if you go to the root and help your whole brain (even if you never practice memory) you can remember grocery lists, conversations with your neighbor, tasks at work, and the word on the tip of your tongue. These bottom-up, generalized changes that help your whole brain are what really improve your quality of life.

Some brain training programs (like Posit Science’s BrainHQ and Fast Forward) add sensory training along with cognitive training. That is a step in the right direction, but it’s still not enough. Keep reading and you will understand why.

BrainTime Versus Binaural Beats

Programs like Holosync, Hemisync and other programs use binaural and/or isochronic beats to enhance relaxation, meditation and creativity. While binaural and isochronic beats are listening programs that require headphones, the process and the results are vastly different from BrainTime.

Key Differences:

  • Binaural and Isochronic Beats impose a steady (unnatural) rhythm on your brain that limits their effectiveness. The changing rhythm of BrainTime builds flexibility that unleashes your brain to work more efficiently.
  • BrainTime is practiced for five minutes twice a day, while programs that use binaural or isotonic beats are practised for longer periods of time, often up to one hour a day.

There’s something more important that cognitive, sensory-training, binaural and isochronic programs don’t address. Neuroscientists have made fascinating discoveries about the fundamental workings of your brain.

The messages in your brain are precisely timed – or they don’t work. Your brain relies on a fundamental time code to conduct its business. We took the code, developed it for 20 years in a clinical setting, and we’re making it available as a proven, patent-pending, easy-to-use process that takes just minutes a day.

Working with the Natural Design of Your Brain

Every function in your brain depends on very precise timing. The messages from one area of your brain to another must be timed to the millisecond or they don’t get through.

With BrainTime you listen to gentle, patented, precisely timed and constantly shifting sounds that nudge your brain into a healthy style of function. It exercises such an essential function in your brain that it offers faster and more wide-ranging physical, mental and emotional results than other Brain Training programs.

All you need is an Internet connection, a set of headphones, and ten minutes a day. Nothing fancy, but the headphones need stereo separation for the best result.
